VANOS Tests the FDMD at TeamUP’s First Full-Scale Trial in Lyon

VANOS S.A. participated in the first Full-Scale Trial (FST1) of the European research project TeamUP, held from 24–28 August 2026 at the SDMIS training site in Saint-Priest, Lyon, France. Hosted by SDMIS and the Laboratoire de Recherche ENSP / Research Laboratory ENSP, the trial brought together technology providers, first responders and CBRN-E practitioners to evaluate the TeamUP solutions under near-operational conditions.

For VANOS, the trial marked an important milestone in the development of the Fast Deployable Mass Decontamination System (FDMD). Following months of development, laboratory testing and continuous refinement, the FDMD was deployed and operated within realistic CBRN-E response scenarios as part of the wider TeamUP technological ecosystem.

Throughout the week, the VANOS team supported the deployment and operation of the system and provided hands-on training to participating practitioners. The activities enabled the assessment of key aspects including rapid deployment, practical operation, usability and integration within the broader decontamination workflow.

Direct engagement with first responders also provided valuable operational feedback, supporting the further refinement of the FDMD and helping ensure that its development remains aligned with real operational requirements.

Through its participation in TeamUP, VANOS continues to strengthen its R&D capabilities and contribute to the development of practical, field-oriented technologies supporting preparedness and response to complex CBRN-E incidents.

A sincere thank you to SDMIS and the Laboratoire de Recherche ENSP/Research Laboratory ENSP for hosting the trial, and to all first responders, practitioners and TeamUP partners who contributed their expertise, feedback and collaboration throughout the week.

The experience and results gathered in Lyon will now contribute to the next stage of validation, ahead of TeamUP’s second Full-Scale Trial in Athens, taking place from 19–23 October 2026.

VANOS S.A. at the TeamUP project Usability Tests

🚀 Exciting week at the TeamUP project Usability Tests!

From 23-27 February, the TeamUP project consortium gathered at Campus Vesta in Ranst, Belgium for the project’s Usability Tests (UT), bringing together over 90 participants from 7 countries, including researchers, technology providers, firefighters, police, civil protection units, military personnel, private security, and medics.

Our team proudly showcased the Fast Deployable Mass Decontamination (FDMD) system, a compact, suitcase-sized, inflatable decontamination tunnel. The usability test aimed to allow end users to interact with the system firsthand, providing valuable feedback to guide the future development of this critical tool.

The week-long event highlighted the journey of innovation from proof-of-concept to lab validation and operational deployment, highlighting the importance of testing technologies in realistic settings. Participants evaluated the systems in a safe but operationally relevant environment, offering insights that will shape enhancements in usability, efficiency, and operational readiness.

A big thank you to Campus Vesta and Gunther F. Dauwen for organizing and hosting this impactful event, and to all participants whose contributions made the week a success.

Moments like these remind us that collaboration across sectors is key to driving forward technologies that save lives and protect communities.

VANOS Demonstrates the FDMD System During TeamUp Laboratory Tests

September marked a pivotal milestone for the EU-funded TeamUP project, and we were proud to play a leading role as Campaign Manager during the Laboratory Test (LT1.4) series!

Our team coordinated all participants across two key sessions:
🔹 Piraeus, Greece – live demonstrations at our headquarters, where I-SENSEGroup/ICCS and Centre for Research & Technology Hellas (CERTH) tested their systems, alongside the Fast Deployable Mass Decontamination (FDMD) System, developed by us. Highlights included:

  • VANOS demonstrating the FDMD System
  • I-SENSEGroup/ICCS showcasing their UAV-based victim detection platform
  • Visual Computing Lab (VCL) of CERTH/ITI presenting their AI-powered Decontamination Body Pose Estimation Tool
  • HELLENIC MINISTRY OF DEFENCE-EU&DEVELOPMENT PROJECT MANAGEMENT DIRECTORATE providing end-user expertise and feedback

🔹 Vienna, Austria – hosted by Johanniter Research & Innovation Centre, where the remaining technologies were tested during an intensive three-day session. The recorded Piraeus demonstrations were also presented alongside these systems for review and analysis, providing a comprehensive overview of the activity.

The feedback gathered will be instrumental in guiding next-generation prototype development, ensuring improved performance, usability, and integration across systems.

A big thank you to all participants and partners for the successful collaboration and invaluable contributions throughout this test series!
